• Airport transfers About the Immediate Vicinity Akbuk is a small town in Turkey where Turkish traditions are still a part of daily life. The town is backed by pine clad hills rolling down to a vast crystal clear bay creating a peaceful and relaxed setting. The bay is edged with a mixture of sandy and shingle beaches which are perfect for water sports and swimming. Akbuk town centre is self contained with mini markets and local shops. The small harbour is home to local fishing boats providing a variety of fresh fish for locals and restaurants. There are a number of holiday complexes, hotels and small pensions catering for tourists in the summer season. Restaurants serving delicious fish and local cuisine at reasonable prices can be found along the bay together with bars playing traditional Turkish music.
The resort of Akbuk was awarded township status in 1991. As a result, new commercial and residential development has been steadily rising and will continue for the next few years. However, much of the area is preserved as green belt land and building restrictions are in force in order to preserve this beautiful bay. Akbuk has recently benefited from a marked increase in European investment and there has been an upsurge in foreign buyers. Although property prices in Akbuk are still low, prices have been rising and this trend is forecast to continue with increasing foreign interest in the area.
Akbuk is part of the region called Didim which has recently been designated a Cultural and Tourism Protection and Development Region. There are plans for the construction of golf courses, sport centres and a marina. The summer season is to be extended from the present 6 months to 9 months and plans to develop 5 star all-inclusive hotels within Akbuk are also on the agenda. Didim has many historical and tourist attractions including Apollon Temple, Miletus and Prienne. The region is easily accessible, lying 170km from Izmir airport and 110km from Bodrum.
