It took almost a hundred years of continuous cultivation of land to form current impressive composition of meadows, fields and forests. Zazriva is surrounded by three mountain ranges, creating a great variety of natural beauty to be seen in a relatively small area. Specific climatic conditions of the area allow you to move from one climatic level to another by simply climbing up the hill, from lowland meadows, through forests to bare top of rocky mountains. Its traditional architecture and exceptional beauty of natural surroundings make Zazriva a blue-print of ideal Slovak village – there were 12 films shot in the area featuring it as a model of Slovak village life in the past.
Zazriva became a centre of tourism in last couple of years. It offers traditional peace and atmosphere of village life, coupled by numerous cultural events from festivals of traditional music to open-air film projections. It has become the most favourite Slovak holiday spot for Slovak artists and intellectuals – you can meet movie directors and actors on everyday basis here.
Zazriva is a great spot for skiers as well. There are 3 different ski-lifts in the village itself (total length of skiing is app. 8 km) and there are further 19 km of ski-runs within 15 min drive. Numerous tourist and cycling tracks in surrounding forests are used as cross-country ski tracks in the winter. The area is covered by snow for 130 days per year on average. This is due to cold weather conditions caused by mountainous location – on average there are 110 days in year when temperature does not exceed 0 degrees Celsius.

It lies only 25 km off the main motorway connecting west and east of Slovakia and 35 km from the international airport of Zilina (connection to London via Prague).
