Crete, the largest of the Greek islands, is among the most beautiful places in mainland Europe. It is steeped in history and mythology, some of which includes the Minoan dynasty and the birthplace of democracy, Western philosophy, the Olympic Games, Western literature and historiography, political science, major scientific and mathematic principles, and Western drama including both tragedy and comedy.

Much of the island is relatively unchanged, with countless, traditional coastal and mountain villages untouched by time. There is a charming, natural, relaxed way of life. English is widely spoken and crime is virtually unheard of. You will rarely find anyone that has holidayed in Crete that doesn’t have a special affection for the country.

Due to its most southerly location Crete has outstanding all year round weather.

Crete is an island of raw, natural beauty. Mountains, sea, beaches, secluded bays, gorges, waterfalls and thousands of acres of pure, natural, wondrous land. It is breathtaking and inspiring in its simplicity.

Crete has a rich cultural history stretching back over 3,000 years. And the community is largely fishing and agricultural. Many villages remain in a largely unchanged state.

The island has less than half the population density of the EU. Outside of the main Cities of Heraklion and Chania crowds and traffic jams are never seen. The cost of living is 40% lower than in the UK.

Crete is still relatively undiscovered, hence underdeveloped. There is no rampant development, the mountains aren’t covered with whitewash, the Government has strict policies to prevent high density developments now and in the future, no house, even a hotel, is higher than two stories.
